Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now hit twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that spot besides him with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
