Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell during the morning session.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
