President Trump Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general told a news show that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
