Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
