Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
