One of the original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who established the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he will personally create the controversial flavor within an individual series showcasing causes the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen announced via social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol of support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that closely resemble those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally created in 2016 for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, after many years with the organization, citing worries that its independence was undermined after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that it can actualise the social mission, the principles which established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
