A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
